Andes Mountains Horseback Riding

Description: Ride your horse up into the high Andes mountains of La Calera around the San Rafael dam. Enjoy a fun ride with spectacular views, green fields and lush andean (sub-páramo) forest vegetation.

Please note that this is a group activity and you MAY be joined by other travelers at any point during the tour. Everyone on this tour MUST wear a helmet in order to be on the horse and keep it on at all times. Failure to wear a helmet is a safety violation and will cause the cancellation of the tour without refunds.

Availability: This tour is available every day of the year except December 25th and January the 1st. We ask however, that during the months of July and August you email us or whatsApp us to verify availability before making your purchase ;)

Difficulty: This trail, suitable for all levels of experience, takes 2 hours to complete along dirt roads and cobblestone pathways that go up the mountains through a majestic Andean forest and open green fields. During rainy season you can also visit a small water spring.
 

Note: Riding times are calculated at a horse's walking speed. Trotting with your horse will cut the riding time. Only one person is allowed per horse.

Duration: The total tour time is about 5 to 6 hours total with 2 hours of horseback riding.

Departure: This tour departs from our meeting point at Parque 93. We also offer door to door pick-up & drop-off at an extra cost. Most pick-ups are scheduled before 9.00am.

Accessibility: Anybody between the ages of 6 to 75 years-old can join. We are happy to arrange a customized ride should you have limited mobility or visual/hearing impairment. 5 year-olds are able to ride if it's not their first time on a horse.

Location: La Calera is a town located about 1 hour from our meeting point in Bogotá across the eastern Andes mountains.

Elevation: Maximum altitude on this tour is 2900 m.a.s.l.

Weather: The average temperature in La Calera is about 15 ºC. We experience light rain 30% of the time and heavy rain 10% of the time. We suggest wearing long pants, thick socks and a warm jacket. The wettest months are Abril-May and October-November. The driest months are January through March.

Includes: Private transport from Bogotá, a mandatory helmet, horse rental, a local snack and a local Spanish-speaking guide.

- Sun protection (hat or head cap)

- Narrow closed toed shoes and thick socks (sandals are ot allowed)

- Long pants or jeans (no shorts recommended due to friction)
