Chingaza Siecha & Cuchillas Lakes Trek

Description: The breathtaking andean lagoons that make up Chingaza Siecha Lakes will allow you to experience a high altittude ecosystem (3800 m.a.s.l.) filled with unique landscapes and flora. A visit to Chingaza National Park will make you feel like you have stepped onto another planet. 

Note: This is a group activity and you MAY be joined by other travelers at any point during the day. You should have proper clothing that can sustain cold wind and rain. We have rain boots available for rent. The Park does not allow plastics in.

Availability: Availability: This tour is available every day of the year except December 25th and January the 1st. We ask that during the months of July and August you contact us to verify availability before making your purchase. Because of limited trail availability, please contact us before payment if your reservation is within 3 days of travel!

Difficulty: This trek is of high difficulty. It is required that you be in good physical condition due to the low air pressure present above 3000 m.a.s.l. The trails are uneven, steep and muddy at times. The elevation gain for this trek is about 400 meters, starting at 3400 m.a.s.l. and reaching 3800 m.a.s.l. Each hour you spend hiking at high altitudes is the equivalent effort of two hours at sea level.

Duration: The tour time is about 10 hours total with 4 to 5 hours of hiking time. The speed of the hike mostly depends on weather conditions.

Departure: This tour departs from our meeting point at Parque 93. We also offer door to door pick-up & drop-off at an extra cost. Most pick-ups are scheduled before 9.00am.

Accessibility: Anybody between the ages of 10 to 69 year-old can join. We are happy to customized the tour should you have a visual or hearing impairment. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. People under 74 year-old are able to join if they are regular mountain hikers.

Elevation: The elevation gain for this hike is about 400 meters from 3400 to 3800 m.a.s.l.

Weather: The average temperature in the páramo is 10ºC, but it can drop down to 5ºC rapidly depending on cloud cover. You could also experience strong sun with temperatures around 18ºC. The weather on the mountaintop is unpredictable. You must be prepared for cold temperatures, wind and rain any month of the year.
